Yamagata Beef Carcass Carnival in Yamagata Prefecture
Champion Award carcass being auctioned at the Yamagata Prefectural Meat Corporation in Yamagata City, Yamagata Prefecture.
According to the Yamagata Shimbun (Yamagata Shimbun, September 11), a carcass of a 593 kg Yamagata beef cow raised by Ozaki Farm (JA Michinoku Murayama) won the highest prize, the Champion Award, at the Yamagata Prefectural Yamagata Beef Carcass Exhibition held on September 11 at the Prefectural Meat Corporation in Yamagata City.
About 90 Japanese black cattle born and raised in the prefecture were entered in the competition, and were judged on the balance of lean meat, texture, and luster. The Champion Award carcass was priced at 2806 yen per kilogram, and the overall average unit price was 2,445 yen. Other than the Champion Award, the main prize winners were as follows The first prize for excellence went to Seizaburo Saito (JA Oishii Mogomi), the second prize to Eiyetsu Ito (JA Oishii Mogomi), and the third prize to Tetsuya Matsuzaka (JA Oishii Mogomi).
