Suntory Renews Yamazaki Distillery – A New Era for Japanese Whisky

Yamazaki Distillery – Birthplace of Japanese Whisky
Yamazaki Distillery is the starting point of Japanese whiskey making. It was in 1923 that the founder, Shinjiro Torii, built the distillery using the famous water of Yamazaki. Since that time, the Yamazaki distillery has been in operation for over a century. And it has continued to produce the highest quality Japanese whiskey, carrying on the tradition of whiskey making.

Suntory’s Investment in Renewal
In celebration of its 100th anniversary, Suntory invested a huge amount of money in the Yamazaki Distillery as a step toward a new outlook. Together with the Hakushu Distillery in Yamanashi Prefecture, the total cost of the renewal was approximately 10 billion yen. Thus, the size of the project shows Suntory’s enthusiasm. This investment is good news for whiskey lovers.

Inside view – Results of the renewal
The interior of the renovated Yamazaki Distillery has been opened to the press, and its new look is attracting a lot of attention. New distilling equipment, the latest technology to improve quality, and traditional production methods have been combined. As such, expectations for the future are high. An inside look reveals Suntory’s passion and commitment to whiskey.

The Boom and Challenges of Japanese Whisky
Japanese whiskey is highly regarded both in Japan and abroad. As a result, it is so popular that many products are difficult to obtain. However, this balance between supply and demand is not yet in place, and products remain in short supply. For this reason, the Japanese whiskey industry has been focused on its future prospects, and Suntory’s investment in renewal is part of this effort.

President Torii’s comments – a wake-up call for the future
Regarding the renewal of the Yamazaki distillery, President Torii stated that “the balance between supply and demand is still far from being achieved” and sounded a warning about the future of the Japanese whiskey market. He pointed out the challenges in the whiskey industry and indicated his policy for future development.

A New Era for Japanese Whiskey
Japanese whiskey is entering a new era. The renewal of the Yamazaki Distillery is a milestone in this era, and as we celebrate its 100th anniversary, Japanese whiskey continues to show the world the appeal of whiskey. We look forward to the future.
