Scallops and Sea Cucumbers Export Value to China Down 65.7% Export Value of Marine Products to Hong Kong Up 15.5

 

According to FNN Prime Online on October 6, exports of scallops and sea cucumbers have declined significantly. The Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries announced that exports of agricultural, forestry, and fishery products and foodstuffs totaled 103.4 billion yen in August, down 7.9% from the same period a year earlier. Affected by China’s total ban on imports of Japanese marine products, the value of marine product exports to China decreased by 65.7% to 3.6 billion yen. Of this amount, scallops decreased by 71.3%, and sea cucumbers also decreased by 65.5%. Sake also saw a decrease in export value due to the impact of Japanese restaurants in China.

Exports of agricultural, forestry, marine and food products to China (single month of August) decreased by 36.3%, of which marine products decreased by 65.7%, of which scallops decreased by 71.3%.

Exports to Hong Kong increased 4.6%, of which marine products increased 15.5%, of which scallops increased 54%.
