Mitsubishi “Star Camp” held at the foot of Mt. A morning yoga experience

According to EV TIMES on September 16, “Star Camp,” a fan meeting organized by Mitsubishi Motors Corporation (hereinafter referred to as Mitsubishi), was held again this year at Asagiri Kogen in Shizuoka Prefecture. In addition to test-rides of Mitsubishi models, a variety of programs were offered, including a special live performance and a manufacturing workshop, where the potential of PHEVs (Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicles) and BEVs (Battery Electric Vehicles) for outdoor use was demonstrated.

Mitsubishi held the “Star Camp” again this year on September 9-10, 2023, at Asagiri Kogen Plateau located at the foot of Mt. Star Camp is one of a series of fan meetings organized by Mitsubishi headquarters that began in 1991. Although it ended in 1997, it was revived in 2007 and has continued to the present day. In recent years, in addition to the Mitsubishi Head Office, there have been other Star Camps organized by Mitsubishi dealers throughout Japan, and the event has gained a high level of support from Mitsubishi users. Participants in this year’s Star Camp were selected by lottery in advance, and 300 pairs came to Asagiri Kogen from all over Japan. Looking at the vehicles of the participants, the most common vehicle was the Delica D:5. The Delica D:5 has long been popular because it is the one and only minivan that can be driven in full-scale off-road conditions. It is an indispensable vehicle for Mitsubishi in the Japanese market, having led the company’s outdoor image after the production of the Pajero of yesteryear was discontinued.

In fact, an overnight camping experience with the Outlander PHEV
The basis of Star Camp is for Mitsubishi users to car camp using their car. For example, they can set up a domed or triangular tent and a tarp next to it. In many cases, they also use their car as a base for a car-side tent (car site tarp). This time, I borrowed an Outlander PHEV from Mitsubishi headquarters and drove from Tokyo to Asagiri Kogen. So far, I have experienced the Outlander PHEV in off-road driving and city driving at test drives for the press. This time, even over long distances of several hundred kilometers each way on expressways and ordinary roads, we were once again able to fully appreciate the overwhelming ease of driving and handling, as well as the driving performance as an electric vehicle that no other company has developed through the i-MiEV, the first mass-produced EV in Japan. We also parked the Outlander PHEV in a corner of the Star Camp site and spent the night at the Asagiri Kogen Plateau using various camping goods that we bring from home and use daily. I really enjoyed the time I spent preparing meals while using the 100V/1500W power supply in the car and the portable battery I brought with me.
