Vitalyk’s X, phishing link spread by hackers.
According to Atarashii Keizai, September 11, Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin’s X (formerly Twitter) account was hacked. And it appears the hacker posted a phishing link, posted Sept. 10 at X. Colin Wu, a Chinese cryptocurrency reporter, wrote on X that the X hack may be related to a hacker or hacker group called “Pink Draine. This time, the hackers posted from Vitalik’s X with an invitation to connect their wallets to the link and receive a free commemorative digital collectible.
According to ZachXBT, a blockchain expert and crypto-asset detective, the total amount of assets leaked from the link in that post was $691,000. The victims appear to include Ethereum developer Bok Khoo. Khoo reported on his X account that he “lost a few punks (NFT). Don’t take advantage of them!” He warned his followers, “Don’t mess with them!
The scam post, which appears to have been posted by the hacker, has now been removed. However, at the time of writing, there are no new posts on Vitalik’s account, so it is unclear whether Vitalik has already gotten his account back from the hacker or whether it is still in the state that the hacker deleted it. Therefore, it will be necessary to continue to be careful.
CZ reacts Changpeng Zhao (CZ), CEO of the major crypto asset exchange Binance (Binance), reacted to the uproar. On his X, CZ said, “Use common sense when reading content on social media, even if it comes from a large KOL (Key Opinion Leader),” and added, “Twitter account security is not designed as a financial platform. More features are needed: two-factor authentication (2FA), login IDs should be different from handles and emails,” the post states.
